About MCA

Master of Computer Applications programme incorporates theoretical as well as practical learning experience focusing on the knowledge and skills to face the challenges of the dynamic fast growing IT industries and multinational software organizations for an excellent and rewarding career. The Department has evolved a unique program blending current software technology with applications domain, a quality process that satisfies the demands of the IT industry. The department is equipped with an excellent computer lab, an advanced system configuration, a well furnished library a Wi-Fi connectivity which enhances a smooth learning and development of the student skills. The lab blends current technological software and hardware that provide complete suit for research oriented activities.

It also possesses an independent library with a large collection of 7200 books and 1750 volumes. It contains more than 50 magazines, International and National Journals. Our Digital library enables the students to take online courses, participate in various conferences and seminars through net. The Department is privileged to release the International Journal on Advanced Computer Applications (IJACA) with the aim of widening the knowledge horizon. We have a highly qualified and dedicated staff team who energize and encourage the students to become assets for the Nation.

International Conference

Our Department conducted an International Conference on "Computational Intelligence and Big data Analytics” in association with Mother Teresa University, Kodaikanal. The conference was conducted on March 6-7, 2015. The inaugural address was given by Dr. N. Kala, Registrar i/c, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. Dr. Ralph Rano, Professor, Nuremberg Technical University, Germany was the chief guest of the day. Key notes Speakers were Dr. Sundaresan Krishnan Iyer Principal, Education & Research, Infosys Ltd., Mysore, Dr. E. George Dharma Prakash Raj, Faculty Member, Department of Computer Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy & Dr. Arunkumar Thangavelu Professor & Head, School of Computing Sciences & Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore shared their knowledge on recent trends and challenges in intelligent computing paradigm. The conference greatly enriched the student’s technical knowledge and industrial exposures.

Special Invitee to Our Institution

The Graduation Day ceremony was held on March 1, 2015 for the passed out students of 2014 at Vivekanandha auditorium. The noble and an eminent personality, Mr. A. K. Pattabiraman, Head - Accreditation, Tata Consultancy Services was the guest of honor for convocation function.

Guest Lecture and Seminar

The Department of MCA conducted various programmes by inviting the renowned academicians and technical experts from leading IT companies.

A Guest lecture on “Banking Correspondent and Business Felicitator Training Programme” was organized by Centralized placement and training cell from 21.07.2014 to 24.07.2014 for final year MCA Students. Resource persons were from IDBI Federal Life Insurance. Students were briefed on banking domain.

A technical Seminar on “Enrichment on Mobile Technologies” was conducted by D2RC on August 2, 2014. The seminar gave clear idea about market trend for entry level categories, job opportunities and in-house knowledge support.

A Guest lecture on “Pre-processing in Data Mining using WEKA” was organized on September 3, 2014 for our final year students. Prof T.Balasubramaniyam, HOD/CSE, Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College, Uthangarai was the technical expert for the day.

A Guest Lecture on “Development in Telecommunication Systems” was organized by our department on September 12, 2014. Mr.V.Anbalagan, Sub divisional Engineer (CRM), BSNL, Salem elucidated about new technologies in telecommunication systems and its usage in present trend.

Workshop Organized

The Department of MCA has conducted various workshops to enlighten the student’s exposure towards both technical and non technical aspects.

One day workshop on “Health and hygiene for women and values in life” was organized on August 12, 2014. Dr.Sridevi, Santosham Hospital, Udumalpet demonstrated yoga to our students. She advised the students to balance their life and career through yoga and advised them to be with only positive thoughts.

One day workshop on “Empower an Hour of Inspiration” was coordinated by our department for the benefit of faculty members on September 03, 2014. Mr.Victor Pushpakumar Pudhota, Personality Development Trainer, Chennai discussed the significance of identifying the domain of student’s interest which would enable them in their career advancement.

Our department organized hands-on-training on “Middleware Technologies” on September 22, 2014.The target audience were our final year students. Dr.R.Senthil Kumar, H.O.D/MCA, Narasus’s Sarathy Institute of Technology, Salem discussed the overview of CORBA, RMI and EJB which would enhance them greatly in their academics and career.

A National level two day workshop on “Big Data Analytics” was catalogued through our department on 20.01.2015 & 21.01.2015. The Resource persons were Dr. Arunkumar Thangavelu and Dr.M.Venkatesan from School of Computer science and Engg, Vellore Institute of Technology,Vellore. Participants were briefed about Big Data concepts with lot of real time examples and also were showed the demonstration of the installation of Hadoop and mangoDB.

Inauguration and Induction Programme

The induction programme for II Year MCA (Lateral Entry) students was conducted from 17.07.2014 to 31.07.2014 by the eminent personalities.

KALANJIYAM’15

A two day Technical Symposium “KALANJIYAM’15” was organized for all the undergraduate students belonging to Vivekanandha Educational Institutions for Women and also from other women’s colleges. UG students of B.Sc CS, B.C.A from all over the state took part in the symposium from 30th-31st Jan, 2015. We had a overwhelming response. Students of about 560 UG technocrats of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions participated on the first day of the event and won fabulous prizes in the technical symposium. More than 172 UG Arts & Science students from other colleges actively participated on the second day in all the events and staged their amazing performance in the Inter Collegiate Symposium.

The department conducted a one day Intra Department Technical Symposium on 12.12.2014 This event was organized to motivate the team spirit, bring out the leadership qualities and to identify the hidden talents among our II MCA Students.
